Twelve Soroptimists (and one Soroptimister) volunteered to assist at the Celebration Zone on the South Perth foreshore on Australia Day. We operated the Events Office marquee providing maps of the activity zones, sunscreen and wristbands; handling lost property (and lost children); supplying bus timetable information; supervising the online survey iPads; charging mobile phones and camera batteries; and coordinating a ‘Penny Drop’ competition that was very popular with both adults and children. On top of this we also coordinated another hugely popular activity space with the ‘Guess What’ exhibition of 100 unusual items from the past and the ‘Guessing Booth’ to guess the number of beads in each jar. It was a great day to enjoy time with each other, to promote Soroptimism and to assist in a very successful community event.
