Our July General Meeting focused on environmental issues. Our guest speaker was Rebecca Prince-Ruiz OAM, who is the founder of the Plastic Free July movement. In 2011, Rebecca became concerned by the amount of plastics going into landfill and encouraged her family to go plastic-free for the month of July. Her idea is now a global initiative, with an estimated 326 million people participating worldwide. Her talk encouraged us all to have a go at reduction. We need to acknowledge that we can’t eliminate plastic completely from our lives, but we can seek alternatives and do the best we can.
