On Wednesday night, SI South Perth hosted the final heat of The Floor is Yours at Curtin University. The public speaking competition is open to all women enrolled at tertiary institutions in Western Australia. We heard from 6 amazing young women who spoke with passion and conviction about issues of concern to them and women in general. The winner was Alexandra Nelson who is studying a Master of Psychology and Doctor of Philosophy in the School of Population Health and spoke about the cost of beauty, the consequences of social media consumption and the importance of media literacy. Many thanks to our judges Associate Professor Samantha Owen, Director of Gender Equity and Inclusion at Curtin University; Bronwyn Waugh, Deputy Mayor of the City of South Perth; and our own Kath Davey, new SISP member and former teaching and learning career consultant. The final will be held on Sunday 25 May, 2.00pm at Notre Dame University.
