School Packs Project

Throughout the month of September we will again be aiming to fill hundreds of bags with school stationery for children in need. This year’s stationery packs will be received by Western Australian children being raised by their grandparents and children in refuges escaping domestic violence in local refuges.

We would like to make the packs extra special for these children, who often have very few belongings. The stationery packs we provide to primary-aged children this year will be hand-made tote bags. So we are seeking help from people who are able to sew tote bags or donate suitable fabrics for making the totes.

Items needed include: packs of highlighters, writing pens, twist crayons, coloured pencils, coloured markers, writing pencils, pencil cases, glue sticks, erasers, sharpeners.  The items must be NEW and can be any brand.

Visit the School Packs Project Facebook page for full details.

Beanies for the Homeless

This project is now in its eighth year and continues to grow, with enthusiastic support from other Soroptimist clubs, craft groups, social groups and many individuals. Beanies, scarves and blankets are knitted, sewn or crocheted by caring hands and distributed to varies agencies and shelters during June. Last year nearly 600 beanies were distributed along with scarves, blankets, children’s jumpers and socks.

Together we aim to make a difference by giving a small, but welcome gift of warmth to a homeless person. A beanie is something personal, a new gift that is easy to transport, not lost easily as it’s on one’s head, and it keeps the wearer warm in both winter and summer when doing it tough sleeping on concrete or under the starts.

If you would like to contribute to this project, email us at info@sisouthperth.org.au or visit our Facebook page.

Relay for Life

It’s on again on 4-5 May 2019 at the Claremont Showgrounds and our Soroptimist Sunflowers are out and about busy raising funds for Cancer Council WA.

If you would like to donate to our team click here.

Relay For Life is a fun and moving overnight experience that raises vital funds for the Cancer Council’s research, prevention, information and support services. Relay is a chance for the Perth community to recognise and celebrate local cancer survivors, patients and their carers, to honour and remember loved ones lost to cancer and to raise money to help save more lives.

Our Soroptimist Sunflowers team has been participating for the past 19 years. Last year we were acknowledge for raising over $55,000 during this time.

Come and visit us at campsite #7 and join us on the track for a lap or two or for a social chat and find out more about our club and what we do to transform the lives of women and girls.
